Project Overview: Luxury Home Golf Simulation Clubhouse
This passionate golfer had been looking for a home for his new Trackman golf simulator for four years. The existing home was not well suited to adding an indoor golf bay, and quotes for a full home addition exceeded $500,000. Kulyk Outdoors came up with the ideal alternative. Their design team crafted an Azenco R-Blade adjustable louvered roof pergola capable of protecting the high tech simulator while making this home golf simulation clubhouse accessible regardless of the weather or seasons. Situating the all-weather golf bay adjacent to the home’s existing patio allowed the outdoor cover to serve double duty as a relaxing escape from the heat when relaxing at home or entertaining guests.
Design Challenges: Preparing an Outdoor Room for the Winter
With plenty of sprawling grass area around the home’s patio on which to build this golf simulator’s new home, the Kulyk Outdoors design team’s main challenges were to protect the expensive simulator from the elements while ensuring the new covered outdoor space seamlessly fit with the luxurious home’s surroundings. Preparing for Charlotte’s notoriously windy and rainy seasons, the Kulyk Outdoors team needed to ensure the space would be weatherproof. As the only motorized adjustable louvered roof pergola on the market capable of sealing out the rain, the Azenco R-BLADE™ roof was the ideal solution to keep rainwater from seeping into the entertainment space below. The R-BLADE™ pergola system is seamlessly paired with this high-tech simulator’s new home. To enclose the sides of the pergola, the Kulyk Outdoors team incorporated wooden slat privacy walls crafted from richly toned Ipe hardwood. The louvered privacy walls gave the golfing space a full-enclosed feel while allowing some airflow for the hot summer days. An overhead patio fan was also added to improve circulation for particularly humid days.
Making sure the space was ready to accommodate freezing winters was the next challenge for the team. With the screen for the Trackman system hung to create one wall, the team then embedded motorized retractable shades around the pergola perimeter. The shades could be lowered to completely enclose the outdoor room, keeping blowing rain at bay and creating a protective barrier to protect the high-tech simulator and the homeowner’s guests from the chilling temperatures. Adding flush-mounted infrared heaters to the pergola frame ensured the retractable screens would retain sufficient heat. To make the home golf simulation center accessible for entertaining foursomes into the evening, the Kulyk Outdoors team also embedded LED lighting into the pergola frame. Recessed LED lights create the perfect nighttime ambiance to pair with the glow of the large simulator screen. Additional LED bar lights accentuate the hues of the natural woodwalls and the pergola’s rich exterior finish.

Seamlessly fitting modern aluminum pergolas into the classic look of an existing home takes a deft design hand.
